Why Combine Hypnotherapy and Nutritional Therapy?

For 7 years I’ve been a registered nutritional therapist in Cheltenham and online and in that time I have learned that diet is only one part of the health and well-being puzzle. For a while I wanted to offer some further support to my nutrition clients aside from just the lifestyle advice that I provide. One day one of my clients, who had done really well with her nutritional therapy, emailed me to say she had tried hypnotherapy and for her it was the missing part of the puzzle that meant her symptoms were fully under control. I looked into it and hypnotherapy has been shown in studies to be effective for people with IBS and digestive issues, possibly by supporting the nervous system. This inspired me to train in cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy as a way of supplementing the service that I offer my clients. When it comes to nutritional therapy, clients often need to make certain changes. Some of these changes are based on old habits. Hypnotherapy is an effective tool in supporting behaviour change and habit change. On another note, many of my clients experience stress and or anxiety. Hypnotherapy is effective at supporting stress and anxiety and this combined with nutritional therapy can be very effective in improving IBS. Likewise with clients with high blood pressure or high blood glucose, in addition to diet and lifestyle changes, supporting the nervous system with hypnosis can be helpful. In some cases, my nutrition clients may come to me with low self-confidence or low mood due to their health issues. We can support the root of a health issue with nutritional therapy. This will involve looking at the diet and analysing the nutrients; looking at eating patterns and timings; adapting the lifestyle if necessary; and adding in nutrients or digestive aids if appropriate. In some cases, clients have functional testing as part of the functional medicine approach, where we look to support the body systems as a whole. However, we also need to support our mental health, emotions, self-confidence and the nervous system and this is where hypnotherapy comes in. Of course, you do not need to have nutritional therapy and hypnotherapy together. You might just have nutritional therapy or hypnotherapy separately. I see clients for hypnotherapy either online or in Cheltenham to support a range of issues including anxiety, low mood, habit-changing, self-confidence, phobias, poor sleep, IBS, and more. There are certain issues I do not work with, and I can refer you to someone more suitable. These issues include cancer and eating disorders. Other conditions that I don’t work with include those where hypnotherapy may not be appropriate such as PTSD, OCD, severe anxiety disorders, major depressive disorders, bipolar, personality disorders, schizophrenia, and psychosis.
